Finding Peace in Change

It's been said that the only constant thing in life is change. This year, as I began my first year of college, I realized how true that statement was. I knew I was about to enter into an environment that was totally new to me... a new school, new friends and a new town.

But while the freedom of it all excited me, it also scared me. I felt as if everything I knew was about to change. It was in those moments, though, that I was reminded of the words I'd heard since I was a little girl: "God is the same yesterday, today and forever."

In the midst of my fear, those words brought unexplainable feelings of peace. I knew that, even though my life was changing, there was one thing that would never change...my God! His love and faithfulness remained the same regardless of where I lived or how I felt.

Isaiah 33:6 says, "He will be the sure foundation for your times, a rich store of salvation, wisdom and knowledge." I don't know about you, but I couldn't imagine having a better foundation than our God! I'm so glad that even in the midst of our instability and fear, he remains stable. He's not surprised or worried about the changes that our future will bring. He knows the end from the beginning and promises that He'll enter into each new journey with us.

I once heard a pastor say, "We can have peace about our future not because of what it holds but because of Who is holding it." What a powerful statement! As we enter into this new year filled with inevitable changes, let's remember that we don't have to be afraid. Instead, we can find strength and peace knowing that we have an unchanging God who is holding our future in His hands!

Colossians 1:17: "He is before all things, and in Him all things hold together."
