Waiting on God

October 24 devo

When we lived in Iowa, my husband would call the house when he was on his way home from work. I would then tell my two-year-old twin girls, Michelle and Brittany, "Daddy's on the way home!" No matter what they were doing, when the girls heard those words, they would run as fast as they could to the front yard to wait by the fence for their Daddy.

They watched the road waiting for the moment their dad would turn into the driveway. One day, the girls were in the middle of playing "dress-up" when their daddy's call came. They ran outside to wait, and I snapped a picture of them. This picture brings back so many good memories and it also reminds me of how we are to wait on our Heavenly Father.

The girls were not distracted as they stood waiting for their daddy to pull into the drive.  They wanted to hug and kiss him the moment he came home.  The girls waited extra long on some days, but they knew he would come.  Just like the twins, we're waiting for our Heavenly Father to meet us.  We may need an answer or direction or healing. As we turn our attention on Him and pray, trusting He'll come, He will speak to, lead and restore us (Isaiah 40:31).

In this hour we need to be tuned into Heaven. When we hear those words, "I want to tell you something, my precious daughter," or when we sense that "heart-felt" tug, we find a quiet place to hear God's voice. It means that we get off the phone, turn off the music, set aside our chores, and turn our attention toward our Heavenly Father. There is nothing else in life that can satisfy your heart as much as hearing from Heaven.

When the twins saw their daddy's car, they would jump up and down and yell, "Daddy's home! Daddy's home!"  My husband would stop the car and hug and kiss the girls. He would hold them in his arms and listen to all that happened while He was at work. Your Heavenly Daddy is just as thrilled to spend time with you. Don't miss the best part of your day.
